Rocks Rocks Everywhere

Aug. 12th, 2009 | 04:05 pm

Have you ever found yourself nearing that point in your life when you realize you just have to many Fing rocks?  I have rocks decorating my apartment, rocks decorating my balcony, filling bags in my closet, in my bathroom drawrs, in my car..... I think that it gets particularily bad when you actully have so many rocks that you lose one amist the constantly expanding collection.  And, the rock or mineral that your missing is never a common worthless one, Its not the oddlyshaped granite cobble you picked up in the serrias or the glassy obsydian you found in the cascades, or even a nice chunk of quartz, oh no..... The rocks and minerals that always get lost , for me at least, are the one which are potentialy poisionous, and exceedingly valuble.  In may case I am missing two minerals baggies. The first are not uncommon but it is the ore from which arsenic and mercury are produced your yellow orprement and red realgar.    As long as the kitty dose not find them its fine... I think they are packed.... somewhere.....I collected them from a gold Mine in Elko Nevada with the mines permission.. not a trip im likly to do again so I hope they are packed away....
The second is of course not so easily replaced.  In fact its been so long since iv seen the baggie of minerals i cant recall if they are blue or red. I do however recall they were clear and had a crystaline structure.... .  This particular mineral sample is  so rare that there may only be one locality for it in the world where it can be found and seen with the naked eye.  This locality was shown to me by some coworkers during a afterwork field trip and is on privet land in a location not well known. Prolly 6 people know of its existance. The locality was the size of a VW Bug and I collected a handfull of samples.   WHy, WHy Why do I lose of all the rocks and minerals and fossils I own , the one which is scientificaly and montarily worth the most?
